a map can be so large and lightning strikes are so spread that it would strike once maybe in a thunderstorm for a plyer to see, irl you can see and hear lightning for quite some distance, here it strikes only if a chunk is loaded and even then it's not visible or audible from a distance

And I think minecraft makes its own sound to hundreds of thousands of blocks, not realistic and should be removed
